It’s looking swell for another free concert series Swingin’ at the Shell.

July 15, 2020

Hard to believe that the historic Victory Park Bandshell, where all the Swingin’ at the Shell concerts take place, was built back in 1941. And with all that is happening now, it was a difficult time back then, too. We were a world at war, but not at war with our new enemy, COVID-19. It’s a foe that has us looking at the world differently.

That being said, one view that hasn’t changed is our excitement on welcoming another super summer concert series in Albion.

Since its inception, Swingin’ At The Shell has been a place where neighbors and friends can meet, albeit now with a little social distancing.
This is a musical event that has been very near and dear to us (seventeen years and counting!) and one that organizers have been thinking about for a long time.

And with other events in Michigan getting canceled this summer, it’s nice to know that the upcoming 2020 Swingin’ at the Shell Summer Concert Schedule is alive and kicking, and features a great musical line up.

Airtight starts it all off on Sunday, August 2 with a mix of Jazz, Blues, and Motown. On Sunday, August 9, its Ross Mead and North County, belting it out with some modern country hits. Next up, the Common Chords (folk duo) are performing on Sunday, August 16, playing an assortment of American traditional music. Then it’s back to some high energy rocking blues with The Thirsty Perch on Sunday, August 23, and some classic rock, dance, and funk with Phoenix Theory on August 30. If swing is your thing, The Rhythm Society is a 15-piece dance band specializing in true vintage swing music on September 6. And to close out another season, on September 9 The Bluewater Kings take the stage performing some high energy live music.

Free Fun For All

Yet great talent is the only thing that is really appreciated. Each concert is free and open to the public thanks to generous sponsors. Their support not only helps pay for this fantastic event, but it also pays for the bandshell’s upkeep and renovations. This is now the 17th year at Swingin’ At The Shell, and it doesn’t seem to be letting up anytime soon. It’s a great way to enjoy each other’s company, even if just for a couple of hours at a time!
